Municipal/Commercial Project Information
Brick roads and streets provide
a stable and durable surface that can be traced back thousands of years. With
proper maintenance and care, clay pavers can provide service for decades - or in
some cases, as in Boston's Beacon Hill - even centuries.
Communities are once again
re-discovering the charm and long term value of genuine clay pavers. Besides the
practical attributes and superior performance of today's flexible paving
systems, genuine clay pavers also create an atmosphere that no other surface
can. With the rebirth of central business districts, establishment of festival
marketplaces and development of new communities, people are drawn to materials
made with a pleasing, human scale.
The appearance, strength, warmth
and flexibility of clay pavers across different styles, colors and locations
make them the ideal surface to meet this challenge. And, brick's wide spectrum
of colors and shapes will work in any setting - from traditional, rural town
centers to sleek, contemporary cityscapes.

Building with Genuine Clay Brick
Pavers Presentation
Building with Genuine Clay Brick
Pavers
(2005), available in
either
Microsoft PowerPoint or
Macromedia Flash, provides a wealth of
information about why many communities choose clay brick as the paving surface
in their municipalities. The dynamic Macromedia Flash presentation takes about 15 minutes to view or it can be downloaded to your desktop or CD following these instructions; the PowerPoint presentation can be viewed on line or downloaded.
University of Pittsburgh
Research: Evaluation of Selected Sidewalk Pavement Surfaces
University of Pittsburgh research
concludes that brick pavements should be considered accessible surfaces for
wheelchair users. The amounts of vibration experienced and work required for
wheelchairs to negotiate brick pavements are similar in comparison to poured
concrete pavements. The complete results of the research are available on line
for viewing and to download and print.
Communities Choose Clay Brick
Across the U.S.: Case Studies
Across the U.S., communities are
choosing clay brick as the paving surface for their municipal projects. These
case studies make a compelling argument for the use of clay brick as a stable
and durable material.
